The issue has been resolved.
Sciebo is not available
At the moment, Sciebo is not available.
Cause of the Malfunction Still Not Resolved
Even though most of the services are up and running again, the root cause of the problem has not been resolved. We are continuing to work behind the scenes to fix the issue. However, this also means that disruptions may still occur.
The work has been completed, and the issue has been successfully resolved.
Outage Affecting Most Services
To resolve the current issues, maintenance work will be performed today between 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. During this time, there will be a service interruption affecting most of the services at RWTH for approximately 10 minutes. Please take this last-minute announcement into account when planning your work.
The work has been completed, and the issue has been successfully resolved.
RWTH Single Sign-On Disrupted
Login via RWTH Single Sign-On (SSO) is currently disrupted. As a result, it is not possible to log in to any connected services.
There is currently a widespread disruption affecting, among other things, the SSO, though not limited to it. The root cause analysis is still underway.
Most of the services are currently up and running again. The analysis is ongoing. We cannot rule out the possibility of further outages.
Most of the services are up and running again. Please note, however, that the underlying issue has not yet been resolved, and disruptions may therefore continue to occur.
Explanation Following the Outage:
On June 22, 2026, starting at 9:00 a.m., there was a widespread outage affecting our services, which primarily impacted the RWTH Single Sign-On but was not limited to it. By around 12:00 p.m., the situation had largely stabilized, allowing users to log in via RWTH Single Sign-On again; however, other issues (e.g., with the IT Center ticket tool and RWTHmoodle) persisted. On the same day, between 4:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., the data center firewall was rebooted, which resolved the remaining issues. The disruption was caused by problems with the data center core switch. To ensure a lasting improvement in the situation, maintenance on the affected system was successfully carried out on June 30, 2026.
RWTH Single Sign-On Disrupted
There may currently be issues logging in via RWTH Single Sign-On (SSO).
This is because a new certificate has been active in the metadata since 9:30 a.m. today.
The relevant department has been notified and is working with the system operators to resolve the issue.
Password issues with public shares in sciebo
Setting passwords for public shares is currently not working reliably (some passwords are not being accepted), whilst shared folders are not affected.
The relevant department has been informed and is working on a solution.
Further information can be found at the following link:
https://docs.sciebo.de/docs/stoerungen/
Update from the operator:
"Since setting passwords for public shares (public links) was malfunctioning and the software unfortunately didn’t display an error message, we implemented a workaround requiring that all shares always have a password. This currently prevents creating shares without a password.
We are in contact with the manufacturer and are awaiting a patch. This will likely be delayed until Thursday due to another serious error, so we will not be able to implement the corrections before Easter."
The update provided by the software manufacturer did not resolve the issue. Work on a solution is still ongoing.
The current status can be viewed at the following link:
https://docs.sciebo.de/docs/stoerungen/
The operator plans to resolve the issue starting in calendar week 24
The operator has resolved the partial outage: https://docs.sciebo.de/docs/stoerungen/

Deactivation of OnlyOffice
The OnlyOffice license will expire at the end of February 2026 and will not be extended.
You can already use Collabora in sciebo to edit documents. Collabora is already the default editor for documents.
Information from the provider can be found here:
https://docs.sciebo.de/docs/apps/office/
Limitations in Online Document Editing (OnlyOffice, Collabora)
Currently, there are issues with collaborative document editing in Sciebo.
Documents opened via Nextcloud-Office (Collabora) cannot be reliably loaded or edited when shared across federated instances (i.e., between different Nextcloud/Sciebo instances).
Similarly, OnlyOffice is experiencing issues with federated collaboration, as changes are not being properly synchronized, leading to diverging versions of documents.
The service providers are actively working on a fix.
The issue is still being worked on. Collaborative editing beyond instance boundaries is currently not possible. A summary and updates can be found here:
https://docs.sciebo.de/docs/apps/office/
We will also announce updates here
The difficulties with federated sharing with the Nextcloud Office (Collabora) editor have been resolved.
The issue with the OnlyOffice document editor remains.
OnlyOffice will still be deactivated at the end of February.
Problems with the current sciebo desktop client
There are currently difficulties with the sciebo client version (3.17.4 Windows), which is indicated by the error message “Server could not complete the request.”
Therefore, the sciebo client version (3.17.3, Windows) should be used temporarily, which can be downloaded from the following link:
https://install.sciebo.de/Sciebo-Windows-3.17.3-34773-x64.msi
The request to update the client to a newer version must be ignored for temporary use.
We are working on a solution with high priority.
We continue to recommend that you do not update to the latest version 4.0.4. We recommend using version 3.17.3 on Windows.
The specialist department is currently testing a new version that should resolve all issues.
Further information and workarounds can be found at the following link:
https://docs.sciebo.de/docs/faq/#nach-dem-update-des-clients-erhalte-ich-einen-interner-serverfehler

Routing über neue XWiN-Router
During this period, the routing of the previous XWiN routers (Nexus 7700) will be switched to the new XWiN routers (Catalyst 9600). These routers are essential for RWTH's network connection. This changeover also requires the migration of the DFN connection, which is switched redundantly to Frankfurt and Hannover, and the RWTH firewall to the new systems.
There will be complete or partial outages of the external connection during the maintenance window. All RWTH services (e.g. VPN, email, RWTHonline, RWTHmoodle) will not be available during this period. The accessibility of services within the RWTH network will be temporarily unavailable due to limited DNS functionality.
