Replacement of central data center switches

E-mail delivery issue
Due to a misconfiguration, there were issues with e-mail delivery on January 26, 2026, between 11:38 AM and 3:20 PM.
If you were expecting an important e-mail during this time, please request it again.
Additional information:
Due to a configuration error, during the period mentioned, emails were inadvertently forwarded to an internal RWTH mailbox (until it became full).
We can confirm that the emails were deleted unread.
For admins:
Affected were emails that, during the period mentioned, were received either
-from outside RWTH Aachen (based on an analysis of the MX records), or
-within RWTH Aachen via smarthost.rwth-aachen.de or smarthost-tls.rwth-aachen.de,
and were originally intended to be sent to a subset of RWTH Aachen email domains and were therefore forwarded erroneously.
The senders of the affected emails have been identified. We will inform them today via email that their messages were not successfully delivered.
Data exchange disruption, contact addresses of students
From January 14th to February 4th, Exchange stopped delivering RWTH Aachen University email contacts for newly created @rwth-aachen.de mailboxes. This affected approximately 100 new accounts. Consequently, new email contacts for these 100 students were not delivered to the IdM (Information Management) system. The Exchange system itself was unaffected. The mailboxes were created, correctly configured by IdM, and users could access them. However, IdM-related systems, such as the e-ticketing system, were unable to generate ASEAG tickets. No action is required from affected users. The problem has already been resolved, and we apologize for any inconvenience.
